At a Glance Bangladesh Betar, Kalurghat, Chittagong.

Broadcasting started on 22nd June 1954 from Kalurghat, Chittagong with a medium wave transmitter of 1 kW capacity. In 1962 the transmitter capacity of the center was increased to 10 kW and simultaneously the Kalurghat center was converted into a transmission center and a new broadcasting building was constructed at Agrabad. In 1988, the Kalughat, Chittagong station was upgraded to 100 kW. Through this center, programs of Bangladesh Betar Chittagong center and national programs and news of Dhaka 'A' are broadcasted on 873 KHz. It is to be noted that the Kalurghat transmission center gained fame as 'Swadan Bangla Biplabbi Betar Kendra' in 1971 after reading the Declaration of Independence. Bangladesh Government awarded 'Freedom Medal' to Bangladesh Betar in 2006 for this glorious and outstanding contribution of Bangladesh Betar Kalurghat Center during the Liberation War.
